Key moments in our 15-year history.

From SearchUser to schurq.

In 2009, our story began with the founding of SearchUser, an agency focused on SEO and SEA. We developed a unique SEO tool that automatically generated landing pages and built internal link structures. This approach enabled us to consistently stay one step ahead of Google and our competitors. At the same time, we created SEA campaigns with fully transparent reporting through our custom-built dashboard, giving clients real-time insights into their results.

The foundations of content marketing

As early as 2011, we realized that technical SEO alone was not enough for long-term success. We pioneered content marketing strategies that went beyond standard texts. By strategically developing landing pages, downloads, and lead magnets, we created relevant materials that aligned perfectly with user needs. We reinforced this content with targeted SEA campaigns, resulting in effective lead generation and thought leadership for our clients.

Automation and personalization

The next step in our evolution came in 2012 with marketing automation. As the first agency in the Netherlands, we implemented SharpSpring, building advanced triggers and workflows. These systems automatically followed up on leads and nurtured them through the entire conversion process.

Omnichannel funnels

2014 marked our expansion into social media funnels. We developed a targeted funnel approach for LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram, carefully tailoring the right message to each stage. This resulted in maximum impact at minimal cost.

Data as the foundation

In 2015, we dove deeper into data and personalization. This approach went beyond marketing automation, focusing on systematically collecting first-party data from the very first point of contact. By segmenting by industry, role, and intent, we were able to tailor content and campaigns for specific audiences. The result: higher conversion rates and improved Customer Lifetime Value for our clients.

The birth of schurq.

After years of evolution, the name SearchUser no longer reflected who we had become. In September 2021, we revealed our rebrand: from now on, we operate as schurq. This new name and vision reflect our rebellious, driven, and forward-looking identity. With one clear goal: achieving measurable revenue growth for our clients.

Innovation in a changing digital landscape

In 2023, we developed cookieless marketing strategies in response to shifting privacy regulations. Instead of merely tracking traffic, we built methods to quantify impact: every interaction carries weight, independent of cookies. This privacy-friendly approach to conversion optimization works with real-time data and complies with the strictest privacy standards.

The rise of AI

That same year, we integrated AI and prompt engineering into our workflows. We connected technologies like ChatGPT to our proprietary methods. By applying prompt engineering in content, data analysis, campaigns, and process optimization, we use AI to generate relevant insights that truly deliver results.

AI Automation and context engineering

In 2024, we took the leap toward AI that both thinks and acts independently. We build agentic workflows that fully automate tasks: from data analysis to funnel optimization and personalized content. The key here is context engineering, the art of feeding AI the right background information. This enables AI not only to understand what is being asked, but also for whom, why, and when. In this way, we prevent hallucinations and ensure output that is accurate, relevant, and aligned with brand, audience, and objectives.

Search Engine Marketing 2.0

At the same time, we continue to focus on the synergy between SEO, SEA, and now GEO (Generative Engine Optimization). By approaching these disciplines not as separate specialties but as one integrated system, we create a flywheel effect for our clients. The result: greater visibility, better rankings, higher quality scores, lower acquisition costs, and ultimately more revenue.
