Do you often search online for the best product or quick sports news? Then you probably recognize how frustrating it can be to switch between different tabs. With the latest update from ChatGPT, OpenAI offers a solution for that. You can now search for, compare, and purchase products all within the same interface.
What’s new in ChatGPT?
OpenAI has added new features to ChatGPT that are now available worldwide for Plus, Pro, Free, and even logged-out users. The updates are being rolled out this week and include improvements to search results, shopping, citation, and access via WhatsApp.
The search function is growing rapidly. OpenAI reported that over a billion searches were conducted last week. An experimental shopping experience is now being introduced. Users can find products through ChatGPT, compare prices, and click through to make purchases directly. Images, prices, and reviews are displayed. According to OpenAI, the product results are not sponsored and are therefore independently selected. Additionally, integration with the popular e-commerce platform Shopify is in the works, further expanding the offerings.
More convenience via WhatsApp and better source citation
ChatGPT is now also available via WhatsApp. By messaging 1-800-ChatGPT, users receive immediate up-to-date answers or, for example, live sports scores. This feature is available worldwide.
Furthermore, the way sources are displayed has been improved. Answers can now contain multiple references. A new 'highlight' display shows exactly which part of the answer corresponds to which source.
Finally, autocomplete and trending search queries enable faster searching in ChatGPT.
Impact for companies and organizations
For webshops, this update represents a potential new pathway to customers, without the intervention of traditional search engines. Consumers can make purchasing decisions directly from the interface. This could also impact content creators and information sites, as source citations are now more visible and users can more easily consult multiple sources.
