Microsoft makes AI video generation freely available through Bing. The new Bing Video Creator is integrated into the Bing app and operates based on OpenAI's Sora model. While access to Sora is typically limited to paying customers, Microsoft is now offering a free application for all users with a Microsoft account for the first time.
With a simple text input, the tool automatically generates a short video. This makes it easier to produce visual content without technical knowledge. The feature is designed for mobile use and focuses primarily on vertical video formats suitable for platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
Impact for businesses and content creators
For companies and marketers, this offers a new way to quickly create video content without significant production efforts. Think of short instructional videos, product introductions, or social posts. Since the format is standard vertical (9:16), it aligns with popular channels and user behavior.
Although the desktop version is still missing and creating a video can sometimes take hours, the feature can still be valuable for quick visual ideas. The length of the videos is limited to five seconds and currently not adjustable.
How the Bing Video Creator Works and the Terms and Conditions
Anyone with a Microsoft account can create ten videos for free. After that, you pay with Microsoft Rewards points, which you earn by using Bing or making purchases in the Microsoft Store. Users are allowed to queue three video projects at a time.
A horizontal version of the videos will be added soon. Despite the limitations, Bing Video Creator already offers an accessible way to get acquainted with AI-generated video.
