Google introduces sharing feature for Gemini AI assistants

Google introduces sharing feature for Gemini AI assistants

Google has announced that users can now share their customized Gemini Gems with colleagues, friends, and family. This development makes collaboration with AI assistants more accessible for businesses and teams.

Gemini Gems gain social functionality

The tech giant is expanding the capabilities of Gemini Gems with a sharing feature that operates similarly to Google Drive. Gems are personalized AI assistants that users can train for specific tasks, such as text editing, brainstorming, programming, or project planning.

The new feature is straightforward: users open the Gem manager in the web application and click on the share icon next to their created assistant. Just like with Google Drive, owners can determine who is allowed to view, use, or edit their Gems. This flexibility in access rights enables secure collaboration within teams. Google suggests that the feature is particularly useful for collaborative projects such as vacation planning, menu creation, or writing assignments involving multiple people.

Business benefits for organizations

For companies, this development offers concrete operational advantages. Teams can now share consistent AI assistants instead of individually developing similar tools. This prevents duplication of effort and ensures uniform results within departments.

The sharing feature also eliminates the need for each employee to reconfigure the same Gem. A marketing team can, for example, share one optimized writing assistant, while a development team uses a shared coding partner. Organizations with Gemini Business or Enterprise subscriptions can immediately leverage this functionality to streamline workflows and promote knowledge sharing.

Practical implementation

Google initially made Gems available to paying subscribers but expanded access to all users in March. The assistants now also support file uploads, making them even more versatile for business use. Companies can start identifying repetitive tasks that are suitable for AI automation. Team leaders can then develop and share Gems with relevant colleagues to enhance efficiency.
