Google Photos introduces AI photo editing features through voice commands

Google has announced new AI-driven editing features for Google Photos during the Made by Google event. This development marks an important step towards more user-friendly photo editing for both consumers and business users.

Gemini AI makes photo editing tools more accessible.

The new "edit by asking" feature enables users to perform photo edits using natural language commands, both spoken and typed. This functionality is initially being rolled out on Pixel 10 devices in the United States and utilizes Google's Gemini AI technology.

Users can give simple commands such as "remove the cars in the background" or more general requests like "restore this old photo." The application can perform various editing tasks, ranging from light adjustments and removing distracting elements to more creative edits such as changing backgrounds or adding objects to photos.
In addition to these editing features, Google is also introducing support for C2PA Content Credentials. This standard enhances transparency regarding how images are created and whether AI is involved in the process.

Consequences for companies and organizations

For companies, this development signifies a significant reduction in the barrier to professional photo editing. Marketing teams and content creators can now produce visual material more quickly and intuitively without extensive knowledge of complex editing programs. This can lead to more efficient workflows and lower costs for external photo editing services.

The C2PA support provides organizations with greater control over the provenance and authenticity of their visual content, which is becoming increasingly important in an era where AI-generated content is widespread.

Practical application possibilities

The feature supports follow-up questions that allow users to refine their edits. Even when users are not exactly sure what they want to adjust, they can start with general requests such as "make it better," after which Google Photos automatically makes improvements and offers suggestions.
