LinkedIn improves video playback and search functionality: what does this mean for you?

LinkedIn improves video playback and search functionality: what does this mean for you?

Videos are becoming increasingly important on LinkedIn, just like on other platforms. The viewing time of videos has risen by 36% over the past year, and LinkedIn is responding with new enhancements. The professional networking site is aligning video playback on desktop with the mobile experience and introducing an improved search function for videos. These changes make it easier to discover video posts and increase the visibility of video content.

Full screen and a TikTok-like experience

The mobile video experience on LinkedIn was already based on a full-screen, vertical display where users can easily swipe up for more content. This is now also available on desktop. By clicking on a video in the feed or the new 'Videos for You' section, the video opens in a full-screen view, allowing viewers to intuitively click through to more videos. Additionally, the video display in the mobile app will be larger and wider, providing a better viewing experience. A mini-profile view will also be added. When you click on a creator's profile, you will immediately see all their uploaded videos. This is similar to the format of TikTok and can lead to increased engagement and followers.

Better discoverability and new analysis options

In addition to visual improvements, LinkedIn is also working on the discoverability of videos. From now on, relevant videos will appear in a swipeable carousel within the search results. This means that videos will be shown to users searching for specific topics more quickly and frequently, increasing the chances of more views and interactions. To provide users with better insights into their video performance, LinkedIn is also introducing new statistics. A key addition is data on the average watch time per video. This helps creators and businesses refine their content strategy and better respond to viewing behavior.

What does this mean for companies and content creators?

LinkedIn's updates underscore the growing importance of video on the platform. Companies and professionals who utilize videos gain more opportunities to highlight their content and generate a wider reach. The enhanced search function and the prominent placement of videos in profiles can lead to increased visibility and interaction. LinkedIn encourages video content and offers new tools to boost visibility. By posting videos more frequently and strategically, businesses and individuals can enhance their reach and engagement. Additionally, optimizing videos for searches and utilizing the new analytics can help maximize the impact of video content.

With these improvements, it becomes easier to grow on LinkedIn with videos. Now is the time to strengthen video strategies and capitalize on this development.
