TikTok integrates Wikipedia snippets into search results

TikTok integrates Wikipedia snippets into search results

You have probably done a quick search on Google at some point. But what if TikTok becomes your next stop for online searches? This change is closer than you think as TikTok strengthens its position in the search world.

Recently, TikTok launched a new feature without any announcement: displaying Wikipedia snippets within certain search results. This move is notable, as TikTok has previously only shown its own content in search results.

The introduction of Wikipedia snippets could change the way users interact with TikTok. Google has previously indicated that it sees TikTok as a search competitor. With this new update, TikTok is intensifying its efforts in this space even further. Importantly, a recent survey has shown that a majority of Gen Z women prefer TikTok over Google for their search needs. This user preference suggests that Google may face greater competition in the near future than previously thought.

The Wikipedia snippets are displayed for certain search results related to people, places, and events. These snippets are situated between relevant videos, and by clicking on the links at the bottom of the snippet, users are directed to different sections of the Wikipedia page.
