Why Your Page Disappears from Google When No One Clicks on It

You have written a page, the content is good, it is in your sitemap, and it is indexed. Yet, it does not appear in the search results. Does this sound familiar? Google has once again confirmed that user interaction has a direct impact on whether or not your page is displayed in the search results. If it is not clicked on, Google may decide to remove the page entirely from the index.

User interaction determines whether your page stays in Google.

In a recent video on the Google Search Central channel, Martin Splitt explains that Google initially gives pages a chance. However, if users consistently ignore your page, this can be seen as a sign that the content does not sufficiently align with their search intent. The search engine then prefers pages that do generate clicks. The lack of interaction is viewed as a performance issue.

What this means for companies and organizations

For organizations that rely on online visibility, this is an important signal. Content that is technically well-structured but fails to persuade or does not meet user expectations risks disappearing from search results. This can have direct consequences for your discoverability, traffic, and ultimately conversions.

What you can do about this

Although Google does not explicitly define what 'interaction' entails, it is clear that user experience plays a role. Consider clear content, engaging headlines, and good alignment with search intents. Pages need to be more than just informative. They should invite users to click further, continue reading, and potentially return.

Those who want to continue ranking well on Google should therefore focus not only on technical aspects or keywords, but especially on the value that the page actually adds for the visitor.
