Short videos, you are probably already familiar with them and watch them yourself. Endless scrolling on TikTok, Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts? Yes, those are short videos. This form of video content is becoming one of the most popular forms of content in recent years. And especially with the growing number of users on social media, it is clear that short videos are the future.

In this blog, I'll tell you what short videos are, their benefits, how they contribute to organic findability and give you some tips for getting started with short videos yourself!

What is a short video?

A short video, as the name suggests, is a short video of up to 60 seconds. This type of video is perfect for quickly and effectively getting a message across to your target audience.

Through omni ads funnel ensure that the target audience encounters you everywhere, on every ad platform.
Advantages short video

One of the biggest advantages of a short video is its ability to hold the viewer's attention quickly. In a world where we are constantly inundated with information and where our attention span is getting shorter and shorter, a short video is an effective way to get a message across. Below I list the main benefits of short video for you:

Quick and effective:
Short videos are short and powerful, allowing the message to be delivered quickly and effectively.
High engagement: Due to their short duration, short videos hold the viewer's attention and the message is more likely to stick.

Creative freedom:
Short videos can often be shot and edited with a smartphone. This makes it more accessible to create and share creative content.

Viral potential:
Social media platforms often have features such as likes, comments and shares, allowing viewers to interactively engage with content. In addition, short videos often have viral potential.

Reach among a wide audience:
Platforms such as Tiktok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts have huge numbers of users around the world. By creating short videos, creators can showcase their content to a large and diverse audience.

Short videos for the purpose of organic findability

You read it right. Videos contribute to organic findability on social media. Search engines are increasingly being bypassed and social media act as the main source of inspiration. Think of search terms like "restaurant tips," "beauty tips" and "recipes. Platforms such as TikTok and Instagram are increasingly transforming into effective search engines. We see this especially with the younger generation, Gen Z, who prefer snackable content to long, boring texts. We wrote a blog about this earlier this year. And did you also know that the description and hashtags you place with your video are hugely important. Therefore, pay enough attention to these elements to ensure that your social media channels are SEO-proof as well!

The basics of SEO must also be right to improve local findability
Using AI to generate short videos

Since the advent of AI, several tools have been developed to help you generate video content. And the possibilities are endless. First, there are tools that, for example, improve the quality of your video or provide a more interactive video. For this, however, you already need video content. Are you looking for tools that generate complete videos for you based on a piece of content? Then you can look at a tool like Visla. This tool turns a piece of content into a complete video in less than 5 minutes. It uses stock videos and text to develop a complete video.

Getting started with short videos

Creating random videos and hoping it catches on is not an effective strategy. That's why it's helpful to make a plan before you start producing short videos. There are some basic rules:

Define your purpose & message
What do you want to convey to your target audience? Focus on one goal, it's clear to the viewer and it increases the likelihood that the message will stick. Tip: work out a script in advance! Of course, you can also use ChatGPT for this.

Use the right size
Short videos are always shown vertically, so it is recommended that you shoot them vertically as well. Make sure your video is at least 1080×1920 full HD. If you also want to share the video on other placements, for example in the Facebook or LinkedIn feed, make the video in 1080×1080 and 1200×628 full HD format as well. That way you'll grab all platforms!

Keep it short
Keep videos shorter than 60 seconds. This ensures that your video is short but powerful. Even better, vary between micro-videos (less than 15 seconds) and videos that last between 30 and 60 seconds. That way you can use your video on any platform. In fact, the ideal length for a TikTok video is between 20 and 35 seconds, while YouTube Shorts prefers videos shorter than 15 seconds.

Visualize your message
The last thing you want is to bore the viewer with a lot of information. Therefore, make use of text. Let people talk, show your product and use (popular) music. This way you will be able to hold the viewer's attention.
